EXAKT three roll mills - the decisive advantages
Narrow particle distribution
In a three roll mill, particle sizes are reduced and agglomerates dispersed since the combined crushing power between the rollers and the extremely high shear force work together optimally due to the different roller speeds. Because the whole product is pulled through the gap between the rollers, there is a precise, controllable, and narrow particle size distribution. Thanks to the ability to adjust the gap width, the particle size can be controlled easily and very precisely on the "micrometer axis µm." This is much more difficult on all other systems. Bead mills and dissolvers produce -- due to their mechanism -- a much broader particle distribution with increased percentages of both very fine and coarse particles, since some particles are subjected to high and repeated dispersive forces, while other particles are dispersed less.

Suitable for a wide variety of products
It is possible to use three roll mills to successfully process numerous products with varying rheology. The range runs from low-viscosity materials (200 cPoise) to nearly solid pastes (more than 1,000,000 cPoise). The advantages of the three roll mills in the mid and high viscosity range permit the dispersion of a product with a low liquid content, which can shorten the overall processing time considerably. Since liquids do not have to be dispersed, they can be added afterwards.
Excellent temperature control
Three roll mills enable excellent control of the product temperature, since the product is processed as a thin film on the roller. This way, the product can be warmed or cooled off depending on your requirements.
Avoiding contamination
Through the selection of materials for the rollers and scraper knives, which are available in a broad spectrum of chrome-plated steel, aluminum oxide, zirconium oxide, and silicon carbide, it is possible to avoid product contamination due, for example, to metal abrasion.
From the small to the large batch
Three roll mills are ideally suited for processing the smallest and also very large quantities.
Easy process control
Unlike bead mills and dissolvers, there are only a few parameters that affect the quality of the product. This leads to quicker success and increases the reproducibility of the product.
