EXAKT - what medical research needs

Cutting/thin-ground technology for medicine

The first EXAKT diamond band saw arose using a cutting band with embedded diamonds. Behind this lay the idea of cutting mineralized bones, teeth, tissue, and bio materials of metal and plastic without destroying the combined materials in the interface. Developers of biomaterials then demanded a better way to prepare their samples in order to be able to assess them microscopically in the next step.

Building on the cutting systems, we have developed our grinder. Thin-ground sections of the processed samples are required in medical implant research and in histology; which must be dyed and examined. An outstanding surface quality and the greatest plane-parallelism is necessary for this, and this with a sample thickness of 20 µm and less! Damage to the material structure is not permitted, the material transitions on the interface must be depicted cleanly.

EXAKT has developed a series of devices that are adapted to the challenges of medical research. Building on one another and in perfect cooperation, our devices can generate thin-ground cuts of samples, which typically consist of a combination of bone tissue, metals, plastics, and ceramics.

The analytical methods of histology, molecular biology, and immune histochemistry demand:

The highest requirements for sample creation must especially be fulfilled as soon as different materials are combined in a sample. But precisely here, the strengths of our system are devices and materials that are attuned to one another. From fixation to dehydration to infiltration with plastic on through to finished prepared thin-ground sections, EXAKT offers a complete line of devices attuned to the cutting/thin-ground section process.
